Hey everyone!
I’m breaking the radio silence on this mailing list to share a couple of things:
(1) My New Love ❤️
So I’ve fallen in love with the note-taking platform Obsidian. It’s been probably the most impactful piece of software I’ve tried and I can totally see myself using it for the rest of my life.
I’ll share more about why exactly it’s been so impactful, and different ways I use it, at a later date - but feel free to check it out if curious. It does require you to write in markdown, which may be off-putting for people who want something more easily off-the-shelf and aesthetic. But it’s so heavily customisable, there’s so much you can do with it.
But yeah, I’ve been telling my friends and family about it at every opportunity, so it seems likely that I’ll make some content on it this later this year - probably in the form of a video series on my YouTube channel.
(2) Explaining Papers 🧐
I started ExplainThisPaper.com with some friends last year, and now it’s starting to take off. The vision is to make research insights accessible to anyone, through simple summaries and original-author annotations.
It’s been really cool to see the reception, and very humbling to have some high-profile people take an interest in the project. We’re moving onto the next phase over the summer, so they’ll be some updates coming.
One thing we’re looking for at the moment is people to help contribute paper summaries - if you’d be interested, let me know :) one paper we’re keen to summarise is this study looking at AI for retinal graphs from the New England Journal of Medicine. There are loads of other listed on on the site, too.
That’s it for now! Turns out I’ve really missed sharing this email each week, so will likely re-start regular posts towards the end of this year.
Hope you’ve all had a great 2021 so far, and until next time :)
Chris
At the risk of giving you productivity tool fatigue... have you tried Mem.AI? It’s like the best features of obsidian or roam plus the speed and ease of use of superhuman.. it’s phenomenal
