71: Shipping my first decentralised app
Hey everyone,
A short one from me this week as it’s been a full-on week in Amsterdam (for DevConnect and then ETHAmsterdam).
I attended my first web3 conference and hackathon, and was really happy to win a prize from Tatum.
We re-built r/place from reddit on blockchain, with a twist: every 10,000th edit of the canvas generates an NFT which adds the highest bidder at a nounsDAO-type community with a treasury.
If you want to check it out, that game is live at www.dAPPlace.xyz/ - however, you’ll need to connect to a wallet on polygon mumbai with some test MATIC tokens. (This may sound confusing it not familiar with the space, but is quite straightforward once you know how - happy to walk you through, just hit ‘reply’)
Also, if you wanted to get involved in the project - let me know. We’re going to build this out further over the coming weeks and months, and some cool ideas for future directions. The latest source code is here.
The project was not directly health-related, but it was great to level-up tech-wise and we’re looking to incorporate some health components into a similar game in the near-future.
I also gave a talk on “How to read a medical AI paper” at the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM). I’m in the process of writing this up as a 7-part interactive email series, after getting some interest on Twitter - will share details in near future.
Also, it was really cool to meet up with some followers of this newsletter in Amsterdam! It sometimes feel a bit odd to write this email each week to ~1000 people, most of whom I’ve not met/spoken to, so it’s really cool when this translates to great experiences ‘in real life’.
I’m too tired to try and write something insightful this week, so I’ll share a quote that’s in my mind:
Never assume that someone else’s motives are less honorable than your own.
Have a great week,
Chris
